Art Inspired By The World
The Art of the Travel Poster
Ahh…. travel posters.
If you ever given your life over to travel—near or far—you probably have fond memories of those happy moments you spent gazing at an iconic ancient building or feeling a deep sense of wonder as you gaze up at one of nature’s wonders. Let’s face it. Humans love to travel AND we love to have a momento of our wanderings.

Beyond their artistic merit, travel posters played a crucial role in shaping tourism trends. Posters emphasized glamour and adventure, often depicting luxurious modes of transport, pristine landscapes, and cultural landmarks. They been used a propaganda tools (remember “I Love New York”) and sales devices used to encourage you to fly, take a train, or visita national park.
Even today, vintage travel posters are highly collectible, revered for their nostalgic charm and historical significance. Modern adaptations continue to embrace digital art while retaining the retro aesthetic that made their predecessors so beloved.
Iconic Travel Posters
Some of the most famous travel posters include:
-
Air France’s Afrique du Nord (North Africa): Featuring an exotic, sun-drenched cityscape, this poster captures the allure of adventure and discovery.
-
United States National Park Posters: Created by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s, these posters highlighted America’s breathtaking national parks.
-
Iconic city sites: The canals of Venice and the Eiffel Tower rendered in vintage style reminiscent of 19th century illustration art.

The Modern Revival of Travel Posters
With the resurgence of vintage aesthetics and the growth of travel-inspired décor, travel posters have made a comeback. Judith Krimski Studio has embraced this trend with a highly collectible series of travel art featuring iconic scenes and places across the world. “Our posters are in part inspired by my travels, says Judith. “One place I was inspired by is Spain’s Costa Brava. So we created images of Gaudi’s Barcelona, The Sagrada Famila cathedral inspired by Picasso’s work, and a sunny summer day inwas inspired by is Spain’s Costa Brava. So we created images of Gaudi’s Barcelona, The Sagrada Famila cathedral inspired by Picasso’s work, and a sunny summer day in Calella de Palifrugal inspired by a sailing regatta I attended there in 2023. This image depicts a purple sky with sailboats leaving the beach for a day of competition.” All are included in this collection.
